about us
We are a group of pseudointellectuals. Each month we come together to eat, drink, and discuss a movie or a book. This blog is a chronicle of those meetings.
Thanks to Julie for hosting that event. Junot, sorry that we were so quiet - I think that we were just trying to absorb all the wondrous and crazy ideas that are jammed into your work. (Also sorry folks we didn't have a camera so there are no pics.)
If there are any of you reading the book please catch up on your Stan Lee and Frank Herbert. May you conquer your inner fuku.

Class Distinctions
Thanks to Gabriella and Phil for hosting the first bookclub meeting of the year. Keeping with the theme of "the relation between classes in pre-World War I England" from Atonement, we watched Robert Altman's Gosford Park. We had a fantastic turnout due in large part from the massive influx of new members from the Whitehead. Next we will be discussing Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous life of Oscar Wao.

Atonement
We had our final meeting of the year. It was a pleasant affair thanks to our gracious hosts, Sven, Celeste and of course Sophia. We discussed Ian Mcewan's Atonement and then decided that the next book would be The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. (Sorry about the lack of pictures, we forgot the camera!)

Distant
Sorry we haven't updated this in a while. Here are photos from the November meeting where we saw Distant directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
Next meeting is tomorrow at Veit's place. We will be watching "Uzak" ("Distant") directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. (Yes it would seem that we are still on a Turkish phase.)
See you there.

Picnick in July
We had a lovely time picnicking in the backbay fens. Thanks to Andy and Leslie for organizing this. During this meeting there wasn't much discussion on the book - the scenery was too nice! Here are some pics:

Ballad in the Backbay
OK, so we didn't watch 8 and 1/2, but instead we watched a wonderful Russian film from 1959 called Ballad of a Soldier. The imagery was beatiful, the acting was great - check it out if you can.
As usual here are pics from the night's festivities (mostly of us watching the black and white movie):
